DirectTV NOW Good or Bad?

After spending a week with Direct Tv Now subscription service, my thoughts! 🤔

Starting at $35 you can get quite a few channels including many local channels. With the price ranging from $35 to $70 for just basic channels, you can also add premium channel such as HBO ($5), Cinemax ($5), Showtime ($8), and Starz ($8). Definitely a discount price when bundled with a basic plan.

I choose the $35 “Live a Little” plan along with HBO and Showtime. The most amazing feature is you can cast this to your Apple TV and Chromecast. My only concern is that when pairing with the Apple TV 3rd Gen I have had quality issues. I loved the ability of not having a satellite dish and a television box. I liked how I could bring this anywhere with data or Wi-Fi. The Direct TV Now plan offers 2 devices to be active at once. I ran into a problem the. I forgot to exit out from my iPhone or iPad when my mother was watching television. This was pretty annoying especially if I closed the Direct TV Now app or opened any other playable format.

With Direct TV Now you can choose to pay either with your credit card/ debit card or with Paypal. I had no problem setting up my account. One thing I wish Direct TV Now would change is the trial time. Since its only a one week trial you can’t really take full advantage of the service. Possibly a one month trial could have been better.

One thing I noticed is when you subscribe to HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, or Starz you don’t get the mobile apps for that service. you are forced to play all contact from within the Direct TV Now application.

Moving back to pricing I wish you could be able to pick the channels you wanted. I found lots of things to watch and its definitely been a great week watching movies and TV shows. Since back in July we removed cable and are just now getting some live local channels. If you have AT&T’s Unlimited plan you may qualify for free HBO a $5 benefit within the Direct TV Now App.

Going forward I’m actually thinking about keeping Direct TV Now. Although I don’t have AT&T Direct TV Now is doing a wonderful job at a ok price. Maybe in the future they could start selling there own Direct TV Now Player that connects via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
